Tate Modern
'A triumph' - The Times
Tate Modern presents an exhibition by one of the world's most famous and best-loved artists, American abstract painter Mark Rothko.
Rothko's iconic paintings are among the most enduring and mysterious created by an artist. In the exhibition his trademark paintings will glow meditatively from the walls in sombre dark red, maroon, brown, black, and grey.
Drawing from collections in Washington, Japan, and Tate's, the exhibition will reunite for the first time the full Seagram mural series, originally commissioned for The Four Season's restaurant in the Seagram Building, New York.
The exhibition also focuses on late 'series' works, painted in the final decade of his life from 1958-1970, and archival material.
